Ever wonder what else can be done with boring old Granny Squares? This project is the answer. Using a slight variation on traditional Granny Squares, you can create a lovely accessory to your winter wardrobe. This cowl can also make an impressive gift for those hard-to-shop-for people in your life.Our Crochet Queen Jo Emanuelson will teach this class Thursdays, 10 am to 12 pm, Nov. 8 & 15.

Class Level: Intermediate
Skills required: Confident with chain, single, and double crochet stitches, some practice working in rounds
What you will learn: Joining different colored-yarns, joining Granny Squares
Materials: G-6 (4.0 mm) or H-8 (5.0mm) hook (whichever achieves correct gauge); worsted weight yarn in 3 colors: 400 yd for main color, 200 yd each for complementary colors, yarn needle
HOMEWORK: Practice chain, single, and double crochet stitches; gauge is important so make a few gauge swatches to make sure you can duplicate the same size squares
