We made it through the holidays, some with beautiful memories, some others with very painful ones. For some, it was the first holiday without dear loved ones. For some it was a holiday of new life. As we move into 2018, I think back on customers who crossed the threshold and their stories – the ones who shared their stories with us. There is a lot of joy out there and a lot of pain.
As we move into 2018, my fondest wish is that people feel less alone. Life is hard enough without that. So consider yourself invited! There is always a chair for you at The Flying Needles Open Stitching, every Wednesday night from 5 to 7 and every Thursday from 10 am to 12 pm. And there is absolutely no connection between those who come to Open Stitching other than a similar interest in fiber arts. The only real rules are those you probably learned in kindergarten – be respectful and be kind.
We’ve seen all ages, all races, all kinds of professions and quite a few religions. We’ve seen newcomers looking to connect with people in the community; we’ve seen people who continue to come weekly – it’s their escape. We hang out, sit or stand, knit, crochet, do counted cross-stitch, weave, quilt, or even just sit a spell. The door stays open until 7, and if you’re nervous, just grab one of us staffers or me, Susan, and we’ll do a full round of introductions. The welcome mat is out! Now it’s your turn to just cross it!
Here’s to a less lonely 2018!
Yours in Yarn,
